‘F&F’ Puglia Illustration…

This is a commission or for better words an ‘illustration’ I did quite a while ago…

Something that I have been meaning to write a post about and put up some photos of – especially the process – given as it was more a drawing/illustration piece – a bit different to my usual commissions – of figures or people. The background/ or architecture was to take a back seat…

Having not drawn figures for a while for commission purposes, if more recently only to doodle (badly) in the backstreets of Lisbon, invariably at a table holding a glass of wine, I was a little apprehensive to get it spot on however keeping true to my style… it’s pretty obvious when a piece of artwork bears absolutely no resemblance to the figures it is depicting!

Take a look, and Veronica – I hope/ know they liked it… I look forward to seeing it hung up in real in November and to meeting F&F in person… um beijinho enorme para ti, a minha amiga!!

Ricardo e Cristiana, Óbidos 2017

So, I am most currently residing in Lisbon (GREAT city, super creative too); and was approached by two very special people to me; to do a commission of mutual friends of ours on their wedding day…

I have of recent created quite a few works centred around weddings – I think the personal nature of commissioning something, and my style lends itself to these special days –  and so was thrilled to do something, especially of two people I know too! I believe those who commissioned it and the the special couple themselves, were all thrilled with the outcome. 😉

Based on a photo from their wedding photography, taken in Óbidos, Portugal. May it bring you many years of joy, and may you have many happy years of matrimony! Enjoy Ricardo e Cristiana!

From one work to another – Brentford FC

In February, this year I was approached by an old work colleague of mine from when I worked as a Hotel Buyer last year, I was very touched when she approached me given that she hadn’t known me in this working capacity/ necessarily seen much of my work!

She commissioned me to create something as a surprise for her Husband to be precise Brentford FC, having never been there myself I made a trip with my camera to Griffin Park, to get some photos to work from. I promised her I would make it pretty and not too ‘football’, as it was going to be hung on her walls for her to see too! For a football stadium/ team I knew very little about, I think it came out pretty well! So pleased he liked it Mich! X

Illy and Jinx – Wedding Insert, Illustrative Painting

In January, I was approached by these clients to create an illustrative montage, to tell the story of their lives together so far, and of the schedule of their wedding day, there were many components/ ideas/ and a few drinks drunk too, as we came to this composition/ final idea!

The top tells the story of the day, and each place illustrated sit along the river where they would on a map of London, the bottom section shows where they met, where they got engaged, where they did Erasmus or where they were from. The final greenery all over was in keeping with their florist who does amazing things, I can’t wait to have a peak at it on the day!

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this piece as it was so personal, and am thoroughly pleased how it turned out as an image for the invite/ insert! It is definitely something I would love to do again!

Have a great day Illy and Jinx, and all the best for your future together!

The Pelican Cafe, London

pelican finished 2

This latest piece of work of mine – finished/framed and delivered last week, was for a newish cafe – The Pelican in Battersea, London. I had sat down with the owner and manager and asked him what he would like, he kept it quite simple, he said: ‘make something that incorporates our motif/branding – the pelican, but other than that do what you like!’ So I decided to make the punters pelicans, and to have my birds either stopping by for a needed caffeine fix (it is great coffee, i’ve sampled it…), picking up a delicious breakfast takeaway, about to go in and settle down to a morning brunch… or sipping on a much needed cocktail!

I have many illustrations of animals in my visual journals and am quite used to drawing many different animals in sketch form, however painting them into a piece cohesively whilst still maintaining the same energy and flow to the painting, proved a new challenge… I think I had a good go at it, and feel it is one of my better colour palettes to date…

Should you be in the area, pop in to the Pelican for coffee, or breakfast or cocktails or to set up an event, it’s a stylish, simple and a very well priced space, well worth a visit especially on a Sunday morning hungover spell…

The Boot, Lapworth

Before christmas I was approached by a client and shall we say ‘a character’ from my childhood/ teenage years (;P) to paint his and his wife’s favourite pub/local for her birthday… quite the clandestine arrangement given as it was a surprise for his wife, when she asked him who he was ‘whatsapping’ all the time… I told him to tell her it was an escort girl … of the creative variety obviously!

Working from some photos and the ever handy whatsapp communication, with free artistic reign I created the following piece below, in my mothers studio, to beat the January blues, before I returned back to London… I think it came out well… and on giving it her today, he could finally explain all the frenetic ‘whatsapping’, not an escort but just a lowly painter! Happy Birthday Jane!

Lucinda 🙂

So I did this private commission before christmas, not my main line of work, but something that is fun and requires some concentration – catching an animal’s/person’s personality is easier said than done… it was in fact a christmas present to a very cool little man I know! I hope you like it Alfie! 😉 here are some photos below for you to see how he came about!

Rua Sao Vicente, Mina Gerais, Brazil

In a recent flurry of work/ private commissions (isn’t it always the way…) I was asked to create this home in Minas Gerais, a particularly poignant home for my client as it was where she grew up. I know the client personally, and knew the sentimental importance of the piece, so despite it being a simple building and a smaller piece, it took some time and thought. I thoroughly enjoyed giving the building it’s character, through my usual use of colour if in somewhat random way!

I was also asked to portray her parents in the piece from photos she supplied me with, which again gave it it’s personal touch – and proved trickier than said, given as resemblance is key on such small figures they required less mad dash brush stroke and  a steadier hand!

Take a look, I believe the client was very pleased ;)!

Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro (CARNIVAL), Paraty, Sao Sebastiao, Ilha Bella, Santos, Santo Andre, Sao Paolo. 2 Planes, 8 buses, 2 ferries… and lots of time to look out the window.

I have been meaning to edit and blog the photos I took on an adventure in Brazil in February, however there were very many… it has taken quite a while :S, these made the cut. See Below. 🙂 A few drawings/ sketches to follow…

Many thanks to the hospitality of my 3 amigos who were in Rio you know who you are, to my new Paolista Mother in Sao Paolo… and to all those I met when my backpack and I embarked on the journey in between (relatively unscathed, only one broken toe and a few good hangovers.)

The nicest thing is I barely had to edit these – the light and colour, well it’s real. It’s Brazil. Take a look.
