Burman Banter…

In keeping with my face a week/day idea, I was in work early this morning in order to get everything done. I did lots of procrastinating… and then this during half an hour… I feel there’s some improvement…

From a photo I took at brunch on Sunday with the rest of the clan (yes OjOj you are not in it, but we all know you are the unloved child… your turn will come!). We covered Wrinkley Avenue and it’s OAPS taking personality changing medication… to Fomo-ing me with their holiday tales… to Klaus the Nordic tourist and his green handbag… it was an interesting brunch. Fun, and I had fun redrawing it. Take a look…

A stab in the dark…

I have been approached by a client to do a portrait of somebody important to him, and well let’s face it this is not my forte, nor perhaps something I will be encouraging doing, but a challenge and mixing it up never hurts!

So, I’m on a face day/week challenge in order to improve both my drawing skills and photography (as there is a lot of room for improvement). I have started with myself (my poor friends will soon be my guinea pigs to the camera… and then the paint brush… you have been warned :P).

I gave myself an hour to have a stab at it, and picked a somewhat blurred, loose photo (it’s easier – slightly cheating…I know) the angle is off (so be kind and tilt your head looking at it), I may have also given myself cheek bones that I don’t and will never have… but lets face it… thats a little thing called artistic licence… and I had fun…photo (54)Portrait 1 Portrait 2 Portrait 3 Portrait 6Portrait 8take a look!

750 Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York City…

So I was approached by a lovely and interesting client, who I’ve worked with before to recreate where her husband grew up,  750 Park Avenue New York. She gave me the postcode and sent me to google maps so I created a composition drawing to get the right perspective – introduced the appropriate characters of the area -business men, cyclists, ladies with little dogs – and this combined with my numerous trips to New York for both work and pleasure, to quote my client meant that ‘I had captured exactly how it is over there!’. Have a butchers…

The Show. The Guards, Primrose Hill, Chelsea, Notting Hill Carnival and Covent Garden.

So last week I had a collaborative pop up show with Milly McCallum, and it went really well! I sold work and took private commissions, so I’m pleased as punch. The work is still available to be seen – 265 King’s Road along with other sorts of work too this week, if you are in the area pop in!

I had a lot of fun with this work as I played with folding the paper to create a 3d element, texture and therefore aura of lots of people, as I wanted these pieces to be based around figures, crowds and people. We have ‘Change of the Guards’, The Sunbathers on Primrose Hill’ ‘Notting Hill Carnival’ ‘Jose’s Boys – Stamford Bridge’ and ‘The Jugglers in Covent Garden’. They were then framed in really stylish box frames with conservation glass and so I was really pleased with the quality and finish to my babies! Take a look!

Hyde Park Corner and the Hilton Hotel… Private Commission

So I was approached by a lovely couple to create a commission of the Hilton Hotel, Mayfair where they got married. They asked me to capture it from the angle of Hype Park corner, so I went there took lots of photos and built the scene up with a little artistic licence, so that we could have the roundabout, the corner of Hyde Park and the Hilton hotel all in one shot, I even managed (inadvertently) to capture where they nearly had a sticky end on the roundabout! It was great fun capturing what they asked and obviously painting. Many thanks! Have a look at the photos of how I built it up…

‘Mumbai’ Architects Digest… Private Commission

So I created and shipped a private commission to Mumbai last week, from a client I gained via the show I did in NYC. They sent me through very detailed photos and an outline of exactly what they wanted – i.e. the view from their apartment in Mumbai ‘The Queen’s Necklace’ making prominent the CSR Train station, Gateway to India, Taj Mahal hotel and Oberoi. The apartment is being photographed and featured in Architects Digest, I was asked to create a focal landscape piece to hang in their main living space of the apartment, have a look!

Selection for the Royal Birmingham Society of Arts… Birmingham Today exhibition..

So, I applied and much to my pleasure (so those who know me better may even say, ‘I’m very JOLLY’) was selected amongst a huge number of applicants to be a part of the ‘Birmingham Today’ exhibition at the RBSA, the Royal Birmingham Society of Arts near St. Pauls; so to all those I know from that neck of the woods if you would like to see my work and a great exhibition celebrating the second city go along! It has been on for a few weeks and finishes on the 1st March… take a look…
