The Pelican Cafe, London

pelican finished 2

This latest piece of work of mine – finished/framed and delivered last week, was for a newish cafe – The Pelican in Battersea, London. I had sat down with the owner and manager and asked him what he would like, he kept it quite simple, he said: ‘make something that incorporates our motif/branding – the pelican, but other than that do what you like!’ So I decided to make the punters pelicans, and to have my birds either stopping by for a needed caffeine fix (it is great coffee, i’ve sampled it…), picking up a delicious breakfast takeaway, about to go in and settle down to a morning brunch… or sipping on a much needed cocktail!

I have many illustrations of animals in my visual journals and am quite used to drawing many different animals in sketch form, however painting them into a piece cohesively whilst still maintaining the same energy and flow to the painting, proved a new challenge… I think I had a good go at it, and feel it is one of my better colour palettes to date…

Should you be in the area, pop in to the Pelican for coffee, or breakfast or cocktails or to set up an event, it’s a stylish, simple and a very well priced space, well worth a visit especially on a Sunday morning hungover spell…
